So you want to create a highly converting lead generation landing page or a sales page that actually makes sales, but you don’t know the difference between the two leading WordPress tools available to do this. Well, you’ve come to the right place because in this post I will be outlining the main and major differences between OptimizePress™ 2.0 (by James Dyson) and LeadPages™ (by Clay Collins).

First things first – both of these tools are exceptionally good at what they do. Ultimately, the decision as to which one you choose to use will depend on just a few factors such as which one you are more comfortable using from a technical point of view – are you looking for super simple cut-and-paste and point-and-click or do you want to get your hands dirty with something more complex and play around with the code behind the scenes to customise its use?

Main Features of OptimizePress™ 2.0 by James Dyson

optimizepress reviewThe original OptimizePress™ was designed and created for non-techie people to easily create stunning lead generation websites, membership sites, squeeze pages and sales pages and gave us a variety of different themes and layouts to use. The new OptimizePress™ follows the same principle in that you can create stunningly designed websites that convert your visitors into leads and/or sales without the need for a web designer or developer.

Remember – James Dyson is a graphic designer by trade and this clearly shows in the new templates in OP2. That is one of the biggest USPs of OP2 because the creator has an eye for detail and great design and that results in a very professional looking design. On top of that, James is an expert at creating design that converts so add that to the great visual elements and you are onto a winner.

LiveEditor in OptimizePress™ allows you to edit and customize your pages easily, without the need for any coding. You can literally see the exact way your page will look in real-time when using the LiveEditor as you edit it. This makes it really easy for anyone who doesn’t want to learn any HTML or CSS to edit pages and move elements around.

Built-in library of content elements that you can use on any type of website you are creating. OP2 comes packed with on-page graphics like call-to-action arrows, pricing tables, guarantee boxes, order boxes, testimonials social media integration, progress bars plus many more. The benefit of this is that you can create your pages quickly and easily with professional graphics straight away, without having to hire a designer to create these elements for you. It’s all built-in which is brilliant.

All websites you create with OP2 are automatically fully mobile responsive with no extra work needed by you. That means they will work instantly out-of-the-box on mobile devices and smartphones like the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy, as well as on tablets like the iPad and Nexus. The benefit of this is that you don’t need to add any extra plugins to your WordPress website to make the website responsive/adaptive for mobile users. That is one of the key features that I love about OP2 – the fact that this is built-in and I don’t need a separate plugin or tool for this anymore.

There are so many new layouts and templates available in OP2 compared to OP1 and other similar tools, and it’s that choice plus the excellent professional high-converting designs which James has created that makes OptimizePress™ 2.0 my first choice for creating marketing and landing pages for lead generation and sales.

Main Features of LeadPages™ by Clay Collins

leadpages reviewLeadPages™ claims to be the fastest landing page creator in the industry. It was designed from the ground up to help you build your audience, build your list, and make more sales according to the website and the creators believe it is the most sophisticated (yet simple) landing page creator platform on the market today.

From my research and the tools that i’ve used myself, I would say LeadPages™ is the closest competitor to OptimizePress™. From a quick glance, they are really similar in terms of the type of pages you can create but when you look a bit closer and start to compare features there are some differences that you should consider. I won’t go into the similarities (like mobile responsive pages and real-time editor) or the basic features of this tool because you can see all of those on the demo video and on their own website.

LeadPlayer™ Page Templates

As you can see LeadPages™ gives you the ‘usual suspect’ landing page templates to use for your website. In theory, you could create a custom ‘Thank-You page’ or ‘Upsell page’ using OptimizePress™ too and have whatever content you want on there but with LeadPages™ there is a specific template for that.

One of the clever features that LeadPages™ has is that you can publish any of your landing pages directly to your Facebook page too, so that you can use your Facebook page to collect leads and opt-ins with the same design style and layout as your actual website. I haven’t personally used this feature myself but for those of you who are using Facebook pages in this way, this could be an extra incentive to go for LeadPages™ over OptimizePress™.

Some LeadPages™ features

One unique feature that LeadPages™ has over OptimizePress™ is the way you can host your landing pages on their own server and get a link that you can use to send traffic to. You also have the option of saving your new page as a WordPress page (you need a self-hosted WordPress website for that option) on your existing website.

Also as expected from most Internet marketing tools these days, LeadPages™ works seamlessly and easily with all the usual autoresponder tools like:

  • Aweber
  • Constant Contact
  • MailChimp
  • OfficeAutoPilot
  • iContact
  • Get Response
  • InfusionSoft
  • 1ShoppingCart

Conclusion

Now that you’ve seen some of the key features from both of these amazing tools, you need to decide which one you are going to use to create your landing pages.

Personally, I am biased towards OptimizePress™ 2.0 for obvious reasons but that’s not to take anything away from LeadPages™. It’s a mattter of personal preference because I like the way OP2 looks, feels and works on the front and back-end. I find OP2 very easy and comfortable to use and there are lots of training videos available for it too.

LeadPages™ is an excellent bit of kit too and it definitely plugged the gap whilst OP2 was being created.

Ultimately, the choice is yours. Which one do you like the look of better?

  • Hey man thanks for the review.

Do you know of which one has the most customizable templates for capture/landing pages?

    • Hi @Perig:disqus thanks for your comment.

OptimizePress 2.0 definitely has more customizable templates where you can add/remove elements as well as drag/drop around different parts of the page. LeadPages templates are quite fixed and you can’t really change the order or add elements that are not already part of the template. That can be a good thing though because the LeadPages templates are pretty much all tested and optimized for layouts that work. The risk with having too much freedom to customize a template is that we get too excited and add too much which will effect your conversion rates.

      • Thank for the reply, I’ve been in a rampage for the past two days to check out all the tools out there to find the one I will use for the next year. There are actually quite a few. ^^

Any experience with “Ten Minute Pages”, “Funnel Kit” and “Authority Pro”?

        • My pleasure, happy to help!

I’ve been using OP2 and LeadPages both for various projects for the last few years (since OP1) and I find other tools are just not as good or intuitive and flexible.

I actually use OP2 and LeadPages depending on how much I need to customize each time. I use OP2 more for websites (like http://www.londonim.com) and LeadPages for standalone webinar registration pages or random squeeze pages because it’s so quick to set it up.

Why don’t you just buy one and try it out – both have money back guarantees if you don’t like one (not that I encourage buying & refunding but it’s worth it to try and find a tool you like).

Great review, thanks for this. I appreciate your efforts to share great tips and help bloggers.

  • Tony Dennis

Hi, great article thank you. I have a question regarding the integration of both platforms. I would like to use optimized press to build a blog platform and initial landing page but also use lead pages for its tracking, facebook and quick production of squeeze pages.

Do you think this would work?

I also plan to create a membership portal in the future so building the foundation with optimized press appeals to me. It’s just I like some of the features of lead pages and can see the benefits….integration would be the win win for me if it’s possible?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Tony

    • Hi @tony_dennis:disqus thanks for your comment.

Yes OptimizePress would be the best option for the ‘base’ website if you can call it that. I prefer using the ‘theme’ option rather than the ‘plugin’ option so the whole site is built on the same theme including the blog and landing page(s).

LeadPages are good for external pages that you want to use for webinar registrations, facebook and super fast squeeze pages with more templates. LeadPages has way more templates than OP2 and is constantly updating them too.

You can actually integrate LeadPages into your WordPress site too so it can effectively sit alongside OptimizePress for the sake of having the same URLs etc etc.

I know that sounds a bit confusing, give me a shout by email/phone if you want to talk through the layout/structure as i’ve done this many times!

      • Tony Dennis

        Hey Suraj,

Thanks for your advice. I have decided to go with optimized press as the base and lead pages for the features that optimized press doesn’t do as good in.

It would be great to chat as I have a few question about aweber and infusionsoft and affiliate set up. What is the best way to contact you?

        Cheers,

        Tony

        • @tony_dennis:disqus Good choice, that’s exactly how I use both tools too.

I’ll email you in a moment with my contact details so we can have a chat about Aweber and Infusionsoft 🙂

          • Tony Dennis

Thanks Suraj, I appreciate it and look forward to chatting!

          • Bliss Rae

            Hi Suraj,
After reading this discussion you’ve really helped me decide to buy both as I can see that OP offers things that LP doesn’t and vise versa. Is it true for doing a Video Summit that OP is better than LP, and LP is better than OP for Audio Summits?

I heard AWeber is good for my email list tracking/email marketing so def. need to get this too.

Which email campaign company do you prefer (mail chimp, constant contact, icontact) and why?

Curious also regarding infusion soft as so many people use this as well, would luv to chat with you more about this and few other programs out there just to see what all makes a great fit for me and my biz.

Thanks so much, looking forward to hearing back from you! 😉

            All the Best,
            Bliss

          • Hi @blissrae:disqus, glad I could help!

OP is better if you want to customise the layout and template whereas LP’s templates are quite fixed so you can’t add things to them – you have to use the areas they have on each template only.

Aweber is good, yes. I used it for many years before needing to upgrade to more advanced system like InfusionSoft which is very complicated and you don’t need it unless you need a full CRM and sales pipeline system.

            Hope that helps!
